Silver Points (SPs)

31 May

Syntax:  SP <target> <amount> <reason>

Silver Points are an award system for players and staff. A way for us (and you guys) to award role-play that you think is just a little bit special.

These points can then be used to purchase a number of privileges, including but not limited to:

  • Specials such as Channellers, Dryth, Vek’pem Ahyre, Wolfkin and Nobles
  • Multiple characters
  • Icing and unicing of characters
  • Skill and attribute points above the maximum amount that can be purchased with RPP.
  • Return a character from death

So, how can you award silver points? This is where the catch is, you can only award them when you have them yourself. And only award up to the total value of the SPs you have been awarded. For example, if you have been awarded 25 SPs in total, you can award 25SP. If you use those up, you’ll need to be awarded more yourself before you can award them in turn. The person being awarded will be notified that they have been and the reason why, but will not be told who it came from.

NOTE: These points are not awarded for every day role-play. We do not want to players awarding other players for a good mud-sex scene, or normal tavern role-play. It should be reserved for the exceptional. For example:

  • A good plot
  • Holding a good event
  • Providing good conflict (not necessarily combative) to the game
  • Involving newbies in a scene and helping them get involved in the game
  • Going above and beyond to provide aid to newbies
  • An exceptionally played scene

This command is logged and those that abuse it will be punished.

Magic Code [|||||||||||||||||||||||||--] (95% done)

20 May

I must admit that I’m surprised at the lack of interest from the players with regards this new snippet of code. And when I say snippet, I mean 8-10 hours of hard work slogging away at C, PHP and MYSQL to get a portion of the magic system in. To create spells, that you, the players can use. At my current charge rate, that’s $400 worth of my time. 10 hours I could of been putting into web-design projects (of which I have 3 lined up) to put towards the big move. So please, if new stuff comes in, applaud. Praise. And generally pretend that it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Because it really is. How cool is it to be able to wave your hands in the air, utter a few words and have a firey sword appear in your palm, ready to wield for an epic battle against demons? Or are you all too spoiled by the ease of which such things are found in WoW and other such graphical MMORPG’s?

I’ve not coded for a bit. A few weeks? Months even. So encouragement would be good. Especially if you want me to stick around and keep up with it.

PS. It’s about 95% done. Expect it to be active sometime over the next couple of days once the documentation and other such stuff is done.

New Blog Toys

17 May

A couple of new toys on the blog. Firstly, a listing of top commenters, ranked by number of comments placed on posts over the last 3 months or so. And also the blog list has been updated to to include and be ranked by update date. Pretty cool. I used to have one of those a while ago on my old RP blog.

I put two code things on the mud. One was a fix to the blog list, filtering out ones that hadn’t been updated in a long, long time. And also, fixing an issue with the kick command being abused in NPC combat. Now, you can only kick to start combat, but not every single round to get in a double attack. PC combat is, of course, different.

Made a yummy lamb roast last night, spiked with slivers of garlic and with a parmesan and herb fresh breadcrumb crust. It was (very) yum. The process wasn’t without danger, was chopping up the pumpkin for roasting and Mum decided to go into the cupboard in front of me, the knife slipped on the skin and yeah. Cut through my nail and a fair bit of my finger on the side. It’s a bit sore, but I’ll live.

Ewan’s taken to waking up midway through the night. Which has been a bit exhausting. I suspect that my Mum is (again) waking him up. Not intentionally, just not thinking when she does cleaning stuff in the middle of the night.

Us Playing at the Park Next Door.

This rock is in the next door neighbours front garden. Since he was little, Ewan has insisted it is a sleeping dinosaur.

Donations and Drag

18 Mar

A big, BIG thank you to Lei and Xietanu for their donations! In return, I’ve coded something for you guys: dragging of objects.

Syntax:  drag <object> <direction>

This allows you to drag an object, that you would not normally be able to carry, in a specified direction. It uses double the normal amount of stamina. And how much you can drag, is determined by your strength (approximately 3 x what you can normally carry).

PS

17 Feb

As a bit of incentive. If we can get enough donations in to cover the cost of our hosting this month, I will code in a drag command by the end of this weekend.

New Code and Hosting Costs

16 Feb

Two new commands that don’t really do anything important (yet), more there for roleplay value:

  • raisescarf <clothing>
  • lowerscarf <clothing>

As it only covers a portion of the face, it does NOT hide the identity of the wearer.

A big thanks to everyone who attended the wine tasting and the announcing of the ball and a big thanks to the player that arranged it. A large number of tickets have been sold, though still more are on sale at the Gilded Swan. Again, I really must implore those that wish for custom items to be made for the ball, you MUST have your requests in by the end of this week. We’re busy people and we have a lot to prepare for the event. The following are a list of time zones and times for the event:

- 5PM  PST,  26th February 2010
- 6PM  MST,  26th February 2010
- 7PM  CST,  26th February 2010
- 8PM  EST,  26th February 2010
- 2PM  NZT,  27st February 2010
Also, that time of the month again and we have another hosting bill coming around. If anyone is able to and wishes to donate to help cover the costs of the hosting of Dark Isles, website and all that goes with it, please do.

A few more changes

13 Feb

A few changes have been made to the smuggling code – more items should now be available as a result.

Check Aura has been removed. If you have it and want some RPP reimbursement, send in an email.

Skills with re-requirements can now be raised to the max.

Thanks to Demos, lots of new help files have been added. Keep an eye out on his title for the latest ones. Demos: you should email me a list of them and I’ll link to them here. I’ve added a help CARMINE.

Masquerade Ball coming up very soon. Tickets have been made and we’ve started to get busy preparing all the costumes for the ball. Please, PLEASE put your orders in ASAP.

Blog Code

11 Feb

Basically this command keeps track of all the blogs belonging to players, ordering them by most recently updated (roughly).

Help blog will give you more information on how to use it. Most recently updated blogs are displayed at login, and an AT sign displayed next to accounts on the who list.
