My plan, at this stage, is to get the website all up to scratch and then go back to magic. I know I’ve said that before, but I really need to have a big think about how I want magic to work and how the code can make it work. The latter bit is the more important of the two, the code base we use restricts in the number of ways in which we can implement a magic system. We need to start with something simple and gradually develop it into something a bit more intricate. Also keep in mind, I do plan on keeping magic rare. The requirements for using it are going to be tough. It will require (still) a talent, and likely very high mental stats. I’m also thinking about a TRPP (total roleplay points) requirement to further restrict the number of mages out there and also make sure those that play them are familar enough with your mythos and the rarity of magic.

Although most of you I haven’t had a chance to welcome personally, and I hope to get to that eventually, I want to extend a small welcome to all the talented newbies I’ve been seeing on and hearing about. Glad that you have found us amongst all the hack-n-slash-muds out there and look forward to seeing you get involved in the roleplaying world and the OOC community.

Website Preview

So, what you’ll see above is a preview of the new Dark Isles website that I have been working on for the last 4-5 days. I’ve gone through several incarnations all of which looked abysmal before settling on this one, though it still needs a lot of work. 

The end result is a site with a more ‘gamey’ feel to it, and the information organised into a more logical format with special sections for Lore, Community, Support and News.

I also hope to have it working in WordPress rather than Movable Type as mentioned in a previous post. It should make the whole process MUCH easier.

On another note, I found the over-load weight bug and put in a fix for it. That’s an old bug that’s been around since the SS days so it is very nice to finally get that fixed.

I’m tempted to alter my name in game on Dark Isles to match. Maybe not right away, need to update documentation and the like too… But it would be certainly to my advantage to upgrade my identities everywhere to match.

On another note, the quarterly hosting for Dark Isles is now due ($55). Funding wise, we’re almost half way there at the moment, so if anyone can help out (even $5) that would be greatly appreciated. Whilst I do cover any short fall (last month we were about $40 short) as a single Mum and student, I must admit to it getting rather difficult. If you’re interested, have a look here: Donations.

What I really need to do is work on the website, but I can’t really do that until my current web-design job is done. But I am thinking about it a lot. I have a lot of ideas in my head. I also am considering switching from Movable Type to WordPress. Movable Type recently updated their design and template system and it is a bit of a nightmare to work with and design for. Almost impossible. I’ve been trialling WordPress with this blog of mine and finding it much easier to use and customise to a style.

So starting with code updates:

• Craft lists can now be refined with keywords (finally, been wanting to do this one for ages)

Okay, my code list is small. Predominantly due to taking on a webdesign contract that I really want to impress with, so all my time and energy is going into that.

On a non-coding aspect, businesses have been put up for sale. If you have the coin spare, I’d recommend bidding on one. Could end up being quite profitable.
