Where’s Archon these days? For those of you who haven’t heard, he’s been having a bit of computer problems in that, he can’t run his system for more than a few minutes before it overheats and cuts out on him. Hopefully he’ll be back soon as he is already missed!

I am…
… in a lecture about reversing a list in Haskell and the inefficiencies of using the reverse (x:xs) = reverse xs ++ [x]
… attending a webapplication lecture right after this one
… and then a logic and computation (modular arithmetic) lecture before finally lunch and ‘free’ time.
Ewan was very clingy this morning and didn’t really want to be left at creche. He likes his carer there though and once she was holding him, he was fine and let me go without further tears. So hard to leave him still though.
PS
One more thought before bed (as I am really doing a good job of postponing sleep tonight):
Did you know that Wednesday is our quietest day of the week?
That our website gets on average 250-300 visits per week. Which is about five times a certain rival mud >_<
My personal blog, I am surprised to see, gets between 75-100 visits per week. About double that of a certain rival mud.
We must be doing something right
Kudos to all.
Me Updates
Got my Training Incentive Allowance sorted out yesterday. Complaining to the Ministry of Social Development worked wonders and got things moving pretty quickly after their big fuck up. Must remember that for next time, to go straight to the top.
Got a pretty new Laptop. This one in case you are wondering. It is a big upgrade on my old (very) crappy Dell (who have finally agreed to a refund – it goes back Thursday) one. Everything just runs well. Faster, better and with more style. Hell, the battery even lasts more than 30 minutes which is more than the Dell one EVER did.
University is into full swing already, assignments etc. So far the workload isn’t too bad. Got two assignments done, one to go at the moment. Math is a bit hard.. but I’m getting there. I think I’ll pass but not with the A+ average I’ve maintained. Already holidays are coming up.. it seems too soon. Only 1 1/2 weeks left then 2 weeks break over Easter and my birthday.
And another good piece of news, my Mum (who lives with me due to being unwell) is going away for 2 1/2 weeks to stay at my Grandparents place as of tomorrow. This means more time for me, and less stress. In general, you’ll notice a (hopefully) happier me.
And Ewan is finally *cross fingers* better as of Monday. Almost two weeks of the stomach bug was a bit rough on him and he had his first day back at creche at the start of the week and will be in again tomorrow.
Tomorrow is a big day for me, University, then home to pack my Mum’s car up. Unfortunately she doesn’t travel light, a 2 day trip for her will yield 25 bags/boxes. I hate to think how much stuff a 2 1/2 week trip is going to yield. I think she’s going to need a trailer.
Lonely tonight. Hugs needed.
Where’s a cat when you need one.
That’s right … don’t have one. One of Ewan’s soft toys instead.
Lots of Little Updates
Lots of little changes, hopefully I can remember them all. I’ll work from most recent backwards:
Darkfall:- The critters have been reduced down in the forest and the food that resets there cut down to reflect the ‘tougher’ times. This should be reflected in people’s roleplay and as they ‘stock up’ for winter and find hunting and gathering that little bit harder. Shops will be selling food for a little more too.
Gather:- Tied in with Darkfall, gather is now coded to be effected by Seasons. Gathering will be easiest in Spring and hardest in Darkfall.
Disguise:- This is a skill for Vek’pem Ahyre that was something that was more manually done, but was always meant to be incorporated into code as a passive skill. This has now been done. With this skill Vek can reduce the chance of being tracked by Wolfkin and also reduce the chance of having their thoughts overheard by Dryth as well as lessoning their chance of their identity being sniffed out when cloaked. This is a VERY important skill for Vek.
Quality:- Gatherable items that load with a zone reset now can load with quality (rather than all average).
Dryth:- Two new skills, send and listen. Increases their chances of being successful at both hearing thoughts and sending them to others.
Morhiag:- Reduction of favour gain towards Morhiag when sneaking and hiding.
Backstab:- Currently obsolete and removed as it was crashy. If you want to backstab someone, hide then attack.
Craft:- Bug fixed where sometimes there were two borders at the bottom of the list.
Scan:- Bug fixed where sometimes staff showed up on scan.
Shops:- A few improvements to the NPC buying code.
Rant (again) – Come on, you must be used to these by now
A few other OOC things both in game and out are leaving me more than a little stressed. My son (18 months) is and has been quite sick with a stomach bug for the last week. And now as a result he has a nappy rash that came up bad today and is so bad he can barely walk. So no University for me tomorrow, going to stay home and give him some air time.
My Mum is… how she is. For those that have read my previous posts about that will know what I mean. Goes from luke warm to volcanic in a matter of seconds. And tonight she decided to have an eruption. No cause that I could think of beyond expecting me to be able to read her mind of course. I should of, of course, realised that when I asked her if she wanted the water changed and the pan cleaned for her to do eggs after mine and she said no, that OF COURSE that means yes, and can you please clean the entire kitchen, do the dishes and clean out the shower whilst looking after your sick baby and trying to do your assignment. She ranted about me from the next room as if I couldn’t hear. I just didn’t say a word and kept my head down. When she is like this, saying anything only worsens things.
The other thing that is getting worse again is my Mum’s spending. Twice now she has spent all her counseling money. Last time I covered her for it, this time I had to ring up and cancel her appointment. She extended her credit card a few weeks ago and has already almost maxed it out. I guess ultimately it is her life, and she is an adult and can choose to live it how she wants. But it is hard when at times she takes it out on me, or gets very depressed about.
Still chasing for a refund on my laptop. Expecting a call today (Monday). Must remember to chase Dell if they don’t. Need a new one ASAP. New graphic card for the desktop still hasn’t arrived. Little worried.
Only small things
Despite the lack of posts here, there have been updates. Though mostly small ones, little fixes to bugs as they crop up. A few adjustments to the NPC buying code. Fixes to drinking of potions so that they heal body parts as well as overall health. Though strictly speaking, I’d like to see salves be body part based and potions limited to aiding with the overall health. But that’s a whole different kettle of fish.
One step at a time hmm? Nice to see magic being used by the couple of people out there with channelers.
Count
You can now count coins in your inventory and the room by using it with the optional tag coins. For example: COUNT COINS
This will count you the worth of the coins in your inventory and room.
Another update to coins is that when ever a PC or NPC buys from a shop, rather than continuing to accumulate hundreds of farthings and pennies, it will automatically update it to higher values. Ie: 1000 farthings will become 1 pound.
Updates
A few smaller updates this time:
Look!
A new addition to the look command; the ability to be able to look at an item
another person is carrying or wearing. This can be done with the following
syntax:
look [person] [item]
Where item can be worn, or in inventory.
Weapon Quality
Now makes a difference. Poor quality does less damage. High quality does significantly more. Want to hit harder? Look out for a fine weapon.
Quality in Shops
NPCs or Players can choose to have their shops not load items of varying quality. Why would you want to do this you might ask? Higher quality items cost more to load. And for some items, such as a book, currently have no effect in game.
We also intend to set some NPC shops as only selling average items to encourage purchase and crafts from PCs. However, all tools will still be available at varying quality from the general supply store. We’re in the progress of setting this up… not quite sure if it is done yet.. *nudge builder types*
Expansion to East Forest
Working on a small expansion to Eastern Forest.
Gathering, Crafting and Quality
Flawed Quality Code
Previously the quality code was a bit flawed in that, it was pretty much impossible to gather anything but average (or worse) quality items. Simply because the tools that one could purchase from shops were typically of only average quality.
Varying Quality of Items now available
I’ve updated code so that shops have a random chance of stocking with items of different quality. From awful all the way up to excellent. Of course, you’re more likely to see average than excellent but there is the chance that you’ll be able to buy one eventually. The trick will be to keep checking stores till you find one. The higher the quality tool, (or really any item) the more it is going to cost to buy and the more you’ll make on it if you sell it.
What Does This Mean for Crafters?
So, now we have tools of varying quality, what does this mean? It means that you’ll notice some variances in the quality of them items you gather AND the quality of the items you craft. When you craft, it looks at the lowest quality of all tools used (and also checks your skill) and selects that for the resulting item.
Examples:
awful knife + excellent skin + master leather working = awful product
excellent knife + excellent skin + inept skill = awful product
good knife + good skin + reasonable skill = good product
Make sense? Now… what does producing objects of higher quality mean for the crafter? Basically better profits.
Breakage
Also, your tools are less likely to break if they are higher quality. Break you ask? You haven’t seen that happen before? Now an tool’s quality gradually reduces over use. As it reduces, there is an increasing chance of it breaking when used for crafting.
What it doesn’t do yet:
A better quality sword isn’t going to do more damage. Quality doesn’t effect armor, or food, or anything other than aesthetics, price and tools. For now.
