Mouse and Muffin

24 Jul

As we all know, I should hope, there’s a one account per person rule.

For some reason, Mouse/Muffin believed that they were the exception to this rule and played two accounts and pretended to be two people.

It was discovered after Muffin was seen to be using an illegal chinese proxy (strictly speaking we could report this to her ISP and she could get into quite a bit of trouble) and yet claimed to not know anything about it,d espite the fact that to do so, she’d of had to enter the details directly into mushclient, likely almost every time she connected. So I asked to connect to this blog site, she did. And it showed up as Mouse, on the lil widget with Mouse’s IP.

She claimed that Mouse must of just ‘logged on’ and co-incidently viewed my website at that exact same time. Unlikely. So I give her another chance to prove herself. I ask her to load my bycarmine.com site again. She did. I confirmed she was there.. she said she was, I checked again.

Same IP. Same Person. Just using a proxy connect to the mud to conceal her address.

At this point of time, until she ends the charade, she is not welcome to play on Dark Isles. Honesty is the best policy here, and until she tries it out, any attempts to connect and play will be stopped.

Additional note for Mouse/Muffin: I’m not stupid, and until you stop ‘pretending’ and trying scramble your way out of this with even more lies upon lies, you’ll get no response.

Outrageous

21 Jul

Westie dude is one half of a set of identical twins which is weird because he is nothing like his smart lawyer brother possibly as a result of a hide and seek accident where he got trapped in a freezer as a child leaving him a few sammies short of a picnic which explains why he stole a priceless ming vase from a triad and smashed it thinking it had a treasure inside and to avoid getting killed he went to work for the triad at his house as a pool boy where he knocks up his wife and bonks his daughter whom his twin brother bedded first pretending to be him which brought back memories of their eighteenth birthday party where his brother deflowered the love of his life in the same way breaking her heart and causing her to run off and become a slapper in a biker gang which was a surprise to him years later when he saw her entered in a competition for his mum’s lingerie business where their love was rekindled but they didn’t live happily ever after as she was killed in a motorcycle accident which sent him on a tailspin bumping uglies with his best mate’s alcoholic mum which caused them to not be best friends but then they had some psychedelic puha and everything was sweet and he agreed to best man at his wedding but didn’t make it as he had to deliver his teenage sister’s baby in her bathroom.

Sound like a typical Dark Isles plot (minus freezer, ming vase and motorcycles)? Actually it was a promo print advert for one of my favourite shows, Outrageous Fortune.

True Blood

So, a couple of nights ago I finally caved in and started watching the second series of True Blood online and finding it just as enjoyable and enticing as the first and just as difficult now that I have ‘caught up’ to wait for each’s week’s episode. I even downloaded the theme song to my ipod. Listening to it now!

When you came in the air went out.
And every shadow filled up with doubt.
I don’t know who you think you are,
But before the night is through,
I wanna do bad things with you.

Tribal Wars

Decided to, after pissing off a particularly large tribe in a very satisfying take over and getting annilated as a result (yes it was worth it), start afresh on a new server. Going good so far, growing faster. Know what I’m doing now. Not that I didn’t before but well, I can do it with pizazz this time. Want to join us? Sever 40, SW.

Dark Isles

New code for the first time in a while. Sometimes it takes me a while to get back into things and with my RPMojo on holiday it makes it that much more difficult. The new code is nothing too spectacular, just an update to the drunkenness system. Now, different people get drunk at differnet rates.

Moving on the Sat 25th July (Fri 24th US time)

17 Jul

So much stuff to organise and do, so little time.

So far the list as follows:

- arrange transfer of phone and broadband … check

- arrange transfer of gas and power … check

- arrange redirect of post … check

- sign contracts and arrange pick up of keys … check

- call lawn mowing to arrange move

- arrange Winz Accomodation Allowance update

- update contact details with everyone

- pack!!!

Also, my first assignment has been given out for comp336 – build a character for unreal using blender and give some sort of presentation. Pondering choosing a well known cartoon character.  Mickey Mouse? Bart Simpson? Felix? Papa Smurf? Actually a Smurf could be quite good… easy texture to apply, lots of resources to work from. Am restricted to only 2000 triangles so a bit limited in complexity.

Another also, got a new work project as well coming my way working on an eCommerce site using Magento. Looking forward to it! A good chance for me to stretch my web application skills to a new level! It seems that people are actually starting to believe I am good at what I do! My Mum still doesn’t seem to be convinced though. And seemed almost… ‘disappointed’ that I got the work? I don’t know. Tempted to ask her what her problem is. But I might be just undoing a whole can of worms that wouldn’t be worth dealing with.

I can’t wait to move. Truly.

First Day

13 Jul

So far so good. I had my game graphics and modelling lecture today and it was quite interesting and it looks like the course, overall will be.  Over the semester our aim is to develop an unreal mod… so it is going to be a bit of fun I think.

Got an eary start tomorrow so need to sleep early.

Not got much (anything) in the way of packing done today. Not good. Hard when Uni is on though to get stuff done. Will aim for Wednesday.

Noobs and Donations

12 Jul

Great to see all the noobs around lately. And some oldbies and old friends too. And some refugees from a RP mud that has gone down I think as well?

What ever your reason for being on Dark Isles, welcome.

Thank you to the couple of you who donated this week. It is good timing as our yearly hosting costs for our web (we use siteground) comes around this month so, helps us make sure our bills are all paid. We really do hope to do some advertising and contract some more art work for our website, but lately been too busy to arrange. Hopefully soon though!

Good News!

12 Jul

Lotta good news this week. The two big ones:

We’re Moving

Yes, you heard right. Finally, we’re moving out of this cold, damp, horrid house and into a nice warm brick home that’s within walking distance of the University. We’re signing the contracts tomorrow and if all goes well, the move in date is set to be the weekend of the 25th. So, going to be a little busy with the packing and all the usual stuff that comes with moving… updating power, gas, phone, broadband etc.

Job?

I might be getting a good part time job working for the company my brother works for in Australia. I’ll be able to do it from home, part time.. and it involves doing the very thing I’m at University studying for, web application development and management. So it’ll be REALLY good experience. It’s not set in stone yet, but it is looking very promising. Got to get a CV together for it and study up on Magento a bit. Excited though. This would be a bit of a dream job for me.

PS. University starts again on Monday. I’m doing two papers (so part time this semester), Human Computer Interaction and Game Modelling and Design.

The State of Things

05 Jul

I feel like I’m having to repeat myself over and over as more people talk and take an interest in the goings on at the moment, and basing their opinions on sometimes only a small slice of the whole pie.  So, to make things clear I will state the goal and position of the mud for all to see. Hopefully this will avoid such confusion in the future and mean we are all on the same page.

1. Dark Isles is NOT a business. We do not make money. This might seem obvious but some people seem to have the mis-guided view that they are entitled to an exceptional level of service and if they do not receive it, complain.

By all means, if you feel that you are harassed:  If someone on staff, or another player calls you names, insults you, swears at you, slanders your name then yes, come speak to us. Ideally right away with logs in hand so that we can look into it. And we always deal with such very firmly.

But do not hold us to some perfect standard of customer service. We do our best. For free. I’ll say that again, because that is the keyword here: FREE. We donate 20+ hours per week. Coders are paid in New Zealand about $80-120 per hour. Administrators about $25-30. Add it up, I’m sure you’ll agree that it comes to a reasonable amount. Most of the time it is largely thankless. Those that do thank us, we REALLY appreciate it. It is what makes is keep going. And sometimes, not only are the thanks few and far between but we get harassed. No, really we do. Quite a lot. Code X or I’ll quit. Fix Y or I’ll quit. If you don’t do Z, me and all my friends I brought here will leave. We get that a lot. If you wish to pay me at my rates above, then sure by all means, demand away.  Until then, it is not acceptable and we will not stand for it. Be nice. Come on, I know you can.

2. Dark Isles is a interactive roleplaying world. This means your actions have consequences. Sometimes these will be good. Sometimes these will be bad. Sometimes justified. Sometimes not. All of these consequences are opportunities for your character to grow and develop, as a result of the good and the bad. Don’t worry though, we keep an eye on things, we rarely let it become unbalanced (at least, not for long). Trust us on this. We’re staff, we’re running the show with the aim of giving the world a dynamic feel. It isn’t just a social-tavern-chat RP game. We do run plots. We do provide a few antagonists through NPC’s that are there to keep the excitment levels up. We, generally, avoid killing people outright. In fact, we very rarely do, we don’t feel the need to. The majority of deaths in game are done by PCs.

Basically: Everything we do we do for you. Don’t make doing so less enjoyable for us, or we may find ourselves unmotivated to continue to do so.

Good News (mostly)

03 Jul

My Mum is out of hositpal now and is recovering slowly. She got a bit moody yesterday but for the first time ever, she apologised.

And the bestest news, my brother is arriving to visit for a couple of days on Sunday. I can’t wait. My family are all descending upon our household to see him, and I kind of wish they weren’t so we could have him to ourselves for what little time he is going to be here. But that would be a bit selfish. Going to try make him an apple and boysenberry pie. I made up the boysenberry syrup last night.

I just checked now and my grade for my programming languages paper has gone provisional and is an A- at the moment but could change. A- is good. It is the minimum grade I need for honours. And given everything that went on last semester I’m happy with that. And you never know, it might get upgraded to an A, like one of my papers last year.

I wasn’t so lucky with my Math paper. I screwed up in the exam big time. My own fault. I had to leave early to pick up Ewan from creche. I should of somehow made other arrangements. Because of that, I didn’t have the time to go back and do the questions I missed and knew and intended to go back and do. I fucked up.  B-.
