New Area coming soon

30 Oct

One more thing, and it kind of deserves a post on its own.

Demos is working on a brilliant new area that is going to change a lot of how the game works, encouraging factions, wars, and all that fun sort of stuff. At the rate he’s working on it, it won’t be that long till it’s complete and you guys will get to see for yourself. Every day I log on to see more rooms it makes me more and more excited for what is to come!

Exams (almost over)

30 Oct

Exam in just over an hour. Eager to get it over with. Scared I’ll fail. And not due to lack of preparation, but due to the dis-organisation of the lecturer which has meant that we’ve had ZERO coursework back, despite the course being 66% internal assessed. Also, a lot of the notes we needed to study for the exam were not uploaded until 2 days before it. The whole assessment is really fucked, and when I NEED an A- minimum to get into honours, or I have to put off a semester and do another 3rd year, it’s kinda critical for me.

But ultimately there’s not a lot I can do about it. Except sit it and hope and wait.

Another exam on Wednesday. That one won’t be so bad. My course work for it is pretty good so far, though still waiting the results of my final assignment. I expect my internal average will sit somewhere in the 90s. And the internal is again worth 66%.

Two New Things

25 Oct

1) show nobles

This command will list off all the current PC nobles in order of rank.

2) enter [portal]

This is uber cool. Builders can now create objects with a type ‘portal’ and set the room number in the first variable that using it will tele-port you to. Created for a specific use in a new area, but will be able to be used in a number of other different cool ways.

Speaking of which, new area coming. Hopefully soon.

Things Are Moving Again

23 Oct

Mudmagic has finally sent off the confirmation email for the domain transfer, so things should start to get moving sometime within the next 24 hours.

We’re Still Awaiting the Moving Van

23 Oct

Have emailed mudmagic a few times to get them to finish the process of moving our domain over to the new host and unfortunately getting neither reply nor action. What should of been done 2 days ago, hasn’t happened.

I’ve sent another reminder email, but at the moment, we’re still twiddling our thumbs and are a bit in limbo whilst we wait.

Additional Transfer Note From Our Hosts

21 Oct

The transfer procedure is relatively automatic and is completed within 24 hours. However, the domain propagation time (how long it takes for you to see to changes at your PC) may take up to 48 hours depending upon your computer/router/wireless router/network/ISP’s DNS to propagate the changes. This can sometimes be hastened with performing a DNS cache flush on your local computer.

In extreme cases, depending upon your ISP’s DNS servers. The change can take a week to geographically take effect. Unfortunately, this is due to some ISPs implementing security polices, but this tends to effect only a very small percentage of Canadian and UK users from my reference.

dark-isles.com 7000

21 Oct

A few days ago, right as I got home from a few stressful days away from family, we had another file wipe problem.

Basically, our host’s hard disc got full, and every time we tried to write information to it, it wiped the file. We were not over quota, but apparently another mud was, and not for the first time.

Because of the time delay in the host getting back to us, our backup was overwritten with one -after- the file wipes. My own personal backup of the data is about a month old. So, this is a big problem and going to take us some time to completely sort out.

We have restored what accounts and character files we can, but it may take time for us to get to all the room objects.

We have decided, in view of this happening again, to move hosts to a cheaper and more reliable one. This change will be going through with the next day or two. We already have the mud up and running on the new server, and are just waiting for the domain name to be transferred over.

When it does, you’ll notice you won’t be able to connect with dark-isles.com 8000.

You will need to update your connection details to:

dark-isles.com 7000

Can’t wait? Want to log on to the new host now?

Feel free to point your client to:
